Disconnecting a GMC account from the CSS service and migrating back to Google Shopping (Google Shopping)
The following guide describes the procedure for switching a CSS provider (Comparison Shopping Service) from a third-party partner to the native Google Shopping service. Currently, this process is handled within the Google tools ecosystem (CSS Center and Merchant Center) without requiring technical support.
1. Access Management (Technical Issues)
Changing a CSS provider often involves changing account access. Please note the following scenarios to avoid losing access to your data:
For Standalone accounts: The transfer does not affect user permissions.
Sub-accounts in the MCA structure: After disconnection, administrators at the parent level will lose access if there are others with direct administrator access.
Permission Inheritance: If no individual administrators are assigned to the sub-account, all users who had administrator status in the parent account (MCA) will automatically receive administrator permissions after disconnection from the MCA.
⚠️ Important: You can't add an email address as an administrator directly to a subaccount if that address is already listed as an administrator in the parent account. Just make sure that after the migration, you'll be able to log in with the credentials that currently have permissions in your previous MCA. |
2. 2. Migration procedure
CSS Center Initialization
The process must be initiated in the CSS management panel by your current vendor or someone with access to CSS Center.er.
- Log in to CSS Center.
- Enter your CSS domain if you are not already on it.
- Go to the Merchants section.
- Find your GMC account by its unique ID.
(If the account is a sub-account, click the account list amount under the multi-account ID and go to the sub-account list.) - Use the transfer function (action button/right-click menu) to submit a request to change vendors.

Merchant Center Acceptance
This is a crucial moment where the store owner must confirm the transfer.
Log in to your target Merchant Center.
Click the Icon (gear ⚙️) -> Account Settings.
Select the Comparison Shopping Services (CSS) tab..
On the pending request from Google Shopping, click Approve.
3. Transition period and finalization
Once the request is approved, the system initiates a grace period (if one is set). Whether or not it exists, and how long it lasts, depends on the settings in the Merchants -> Switch History: Account Grace Period section.
